Andrea Belag produces direct and exuberant works via a vocabulary of expressive brushwork and beautifully nuanced color decisions. Through a sequence of highly inventive forms and a delicate layering of transparencies, discrete signs are revealed. Using a method sensitive to both accuracy and economy, the components of her paintings function as narrative presence while producing a sensual energy.
The artist lives and works in New York City and Far Rockaway, Queens. She was educated at the New York Studio of Drawing, Painting & Sculpture and is currently a faculty member at the School of Visual Arts.
